Barry Wayne Long, 66, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026. He was born on March 9, 1959, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, to John Long and Debra (Freeman) Allec.

Barry was deeply loved by all who knew him. A man of faith, service, and joy, he lived a life centered on God, family, and helping others. Barry served faithfully as a Pastor at Cowden Free Methodist Church in Cowden, Illinois, and Bethany Free Methodist Church, where his compassion, wisdom, and steady leadership touched countless lives. He also dedicated himself professionally as a Senior Academic Advisor for TCC, always eager to guide and encourage students toward their goals.

At the age of 18, Barry proudly joined the United States Air Force, serving his country for 11½ years. While stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life, Kathy (Budahazy) Long. Together, they built a beautiful life and were married for 43 years-a true testament to a marriage grounded in faith and devotion. Together they raised ten children, creating a home full of love, laughter, and purpose.

Barry had a deep appreciation for life's simple joys. He loved fishing, shooting guns, and biking, and was an avid sports fan-especially of University of Illinois football and basketball. A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, Barry delighted in finally seeing them win the World Series. He was also famously known as the best cook, with his bread pudding and lemon pudding becoming family legends.

Above all, Barry loved people. He had a servant's heart and never hesitated to help anyone in need, whether through his ministry, his work, or simple acts of kindness.

Barry is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Long' his children and their spouses: Josiah Long, Deborah Brooks, Rebecca Long, John Long, James Long, Benjamin Long, Samuel Long, Mathew Long, and Christina Campbell; and his cherished grandchildren: Naiyah Long, Nyla Anderson, Maverick Long, Luciana Long, Joseph Brooks, Stevie Campbell, Tatum Campbell, Dominic Long, and Levi Long.

He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Long; his father, Jack Long, and his brother, Michael Long. Now reunited with his son, Barry is surely enjoying their friendly rivalry-Stephen cheering for the Cardinals while Barry proudly roots for the Cubs.

Barry Wayne Long leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, service, and unwavering devotion to family and God. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
