Cecil Eugene "Gene" Coffey, 58, passed away on February 11, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Gene was born on July 4, 1967, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Ray Coffey and Louella Coffey. Born on Independence Day, it was only fitting that he lived his life with a spirit all his own - vibrant, bold, and impossible to ignore. Gene was friendly and outgoing, the kind of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone and leave them smiling. He was fun-loving, a little ornery, and always ready to turn an ordinary moment into something memorable.

Music was one of Gene's greatest passions. He loved mixing and making music, spending hours perfecting sounds and creating playlists that brought people together. He especially loved to DJ, sharing his energy and joy through rhythm and beat. Whether it was a small gathering or just time at home, music was always playing and Gene was always in his element.

He also cherished the outdoors - camping, hiking, and fishing were among his favorite ways to spend time. His sister, Crystal, fondly recalls a hiking trip where Gene repeatedly assured everyone, "It's just a few more clicks ahead." After hearing it enough times, someone finally asked, "How far is a click?" Only then did they discover it was a term Gene had completely made up, used whenever he didn't quite know how much farther there was to go. It was a perfect example of his playful ornery streak and the laughter he brought to those around him.

As a young boy growing up in the Midwest, Gene was adventurous and fearless. He would climb onto the garage roof and leap into snowbanks below, embracing life with joy and a sense of fun that never left him.

For 15 years, Gene shared his life with his partner, Mel Henderson. Their time together was filled with companionship, love, and shared memories that will be cherished always. To Mel, Gene was affectionately known as "Pookybear," a nickname that reflected the deep love, warmth, and playful bond they shared.

Gene is survived by his sisters, Ethel (Mel) Coffey, Cindy Skipton, and Crystal Bowman; his brother, Ray Coffey; his beloved partner, Mel Henderson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Louella Coffey; his sisters, Alma Coffey and Belinda Jones; and his brother, Daniel Coffey.

Gene will be remembered for his laughter, his music, and the warmth he brought into every room. His adventurous spirit, mischievous humor, and loving heart leave a legacy that will continue to echo in the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
