Listen to Obituary

Craig Douglas Eberhart, 36, passed away on January 14, 2026.

Craig was born on March 13, 1989, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Richard Hunt and DeShawna Eberhart Taft. From an early age, Craig was known as someone you could always count on. If anyone needed help, Craig would be there, no matter the distance, the time, or the cost to himself. Reliability was not just a trait for him, it was a way of life.

Craig believed deeply in God. He believed in kindness, honesty, and speaking the truth, even when that truth was hard to hear. He was soft-hearted yet strong, gentle yet courageous. His faith guided his actions, and he never hesitated to give praise to the Lord. Whether in daily life or out in the field, Craig lived with gratitude. When he harvested an elk, he always stopped to thank God.

Craig loved the outdoors and everything that came with it. Motorcycles, big trucks, hunting, fishing, mud bogging, and adventure were all part of who he was. He loved music and was known for being exceptionally honest. He enjoyed camping with friends, riding motorcycles, noodling, and chasing whatever adventure came next. His outlook on life was always positive, and his joy was contagious.

Those who knew Craig will always remember his hugs. They were the kind that made you feel seen, valued, and loved. He gave the best hugs, and you could feel how much they meant every time. Craig was fiercely loyal and all-in when it came to helping others. If you trusted him with something private, it stayed with him. He was an incredible brother and a steadfast friend.

Above all, Craig loved being a father. He cherished time with his children and took great joy in teaching them new things. He also happened to be an amazing cook, famous for making the best beans and the fluffiest pancakes around. Often, he would flash a devious smile, followed by a laugh that made everyone else laugh too. Craig was joyful, genuine, and full of life.

His mother holds countless proud memories of her son. One especially treasured moment was when Craig ran up to her and said, "Let's go for a cruise." That cruise turned into a trip to the mud bogs, with his mother panicking and Craig calmly insisting, "We gotta stay in it, you don't want to walk five miles!" It was classic Craig-good-humored, adventurous, and always finding joy in the moment.

Craig is survived by his mother, DeShawna Taft; his father, Richard Hunt; his children, James (20), Logan James (17), Nevaeh Elisa (16), and Blayden (10); his brothers, Thomas Eberhart, Denzil Eberhart, Rue Hunt, Matt Orona, and John Pollock; and his sisters, Linda Chaplin and Barbie Kimbrough.

Craig is preceded in death by his stepmother, Pauline Hunt and brother, Eddie Chaplin.

Craig Douglas Eberhart will be remembered as a man of faith, honesty, loyalty, and love. He stood up for what was right, gave generously of himself, and lived with a joyful heart. His legacy lives on through his children, his family, and the countless lives he touched simply by being who he was. Craig was just a "wild thing."
