James Roy Spears

James Roy Spears peacefully transitioned from his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father August 21, 2026. He was born October 10, 1936 at home near Atwood, OK to Vernice Haney Spears and Grady Alexander Spears. He is preceded in death by his daughter Stacy and son Tanner; daughter-in-law, Angie; brothers, JW, Glen, Ken and his parents. Jim has been a resident of Sperry, OK for the past 32 years. Jim is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dixie Yvonne Spears; son, Ty; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Allford; grand daughters; Cassie Smith (Josh); Tara Vargas (Esteban); Hayley Dawn Allford and grandsons Jeffrey Spears (Stephanie); Tyler Spears (Ryan); Dustin Spears (Staci); Colton Gibson (Jessica); and Tanner Javernick. Great grandchildren Treyton, Colton; Trynatie, Toby, Lexi, Gentry, DeWayne, Stacy, Brentli, Dalton, Kinsley, Casey & Hunter. He is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews. At an early age his family moved to Arizona due to him having Rheumatic Fever and the need to live in a dryer climate. He was a 1956 graduate of Coolidge High School, in Coolidge, AZ. Jim was Honorably discharged from the US Army National Guard and Reserves. He & family moved back to Oklahoma in 1976 where he managed a registered Brangus cattle ranch. When the ranch closed he worked in home improvement with his son until he had a traumatic brain injury. Of his many adventures he owned a Western Store in AZ, worked in Chevrolet auto parts, at a Copper Mine, in sales for a cattle auction, horse trading, and he wrote serious and funny poems. He had a quick wit & sense of humor, sometimes leaving a person wondering if he was serious or not. He was an independent man and a little ornery at times. He can be remembered as a loving & caring person to his wife and all his family. A long time friend said "He's skilled in a great many ways, an artist, a musician, singing and writing, horseman, wrangler, husbandry science, husband, father, friend and more!"

Memorial service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 2 pm in the Bethel Baptist Church, 10705 E 86th St N, Owasso, OK. Family requests no flowers and donations be made in memory to Seasons Hospice, 6532 E 71st St, Suite 150, Tulsa, OK. 74133 or the organization of your choice.
