Jerry Wayne Dyer Sr., 84, passed away on February 5, 2026. He was born on October 2, 1941, in Brenham, Texas, to Harrison Dyer Sr. and Peggy (Valentine) Absher.
Jerry was truly one of a kind. Known for being stubborn and ornery-but also endlessly resourceful-he had a natural talent for wheeling and dealing. A salesman at heart, Jerry spent his entire adult life in sales across various industries, building lasting relationships along the way. His customers loved him, not just for what he sold, but for how he treated people. Jerry was the kind of man who always went above and beyond, no matter the situation.
He was a lifelong tinkerer, happiest when fixing, rebuilding, or improving something. Garage sales were a favorite pastime, especially if they involved lawn mowers or small engines that he could bring back to life and resell on Marketplace or Craigslist. Even at 84, Jerry remained sharp with technology and never shied away from learning something new.
Jerry loved fishing-especially bass fishing-and although it had been some time since he was able to go regularly, the passion never left him. His determination was evident to the very end. Despite ongoing health complications, Jerry continued to push forward. Just months before his passing, he proudly bought a boat with plans to fish again, a story his son fondly shares as a testament to Jerry's enduring spirit.
Mechanically inclined and a true barterer at heart, Jerry believed everything was negotiable-including, famously, bartering with his attorney for the writing of his trust. That determination, grit, and independence defined him throughout his life.
Jerry married the love of his life, Betsy, in 1982, and together they shared many years of partnership and family.
He is survived by his wife, Betsy (Mary) Dyer; his children, Tammy McIntosh and husband Lance, Jerry Dyer Jr. and wife Mary, Lori Cordell, Ron Ward and wife Cindy, and Jennifer Nelson and husband Leland; his grandchildren, Charlie, Cole and wife Chelsea, and Todd and wife Taylor, Jacob, Courtney and husband Mika, Jonathan and wife Sarah, Tristen and husband Colten, Tori and husband Devin, and Darah and husband Vince; his great-grandchildren, Blakely, Braxton, Cooper, Piper, Parker, Mallory, Ellison, Juniper, Troy, and Ridge; and his sister, Margie Schwartz and husband Bob.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison Dyer Sr. and Peggy (Absher) Valentine; his brother, Harrison Dyer Jr.; and his sister, Beverly.
Jerry Wayne Dyer Sr. will be remembered for his sharp mind, strong will, generous heart, and the unmistakable way he lived life on his own terms.
