John Edward Harris passed away on March 1, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1955 and carried with him a lifelong curiosity about how things worked and how to make them better.

John built a career as an electrician after beginning his work at Westinghouse, where he learned the trade that would stay with him throughout his life. He later became involved in installing cable television and teaching others how to install it as well. Working with his hands suited him well. If something was broken, John usually had a way of figuring it out. He enjoyed the challenge of solving problems, taking things apart, and putting them back together again.

One of the most meaningful parts of John's life was serving as a foster parent for ten years. As the primary caregiver in the home, he devoted his time and energy to caring for children who needed stability, guidance, and someone willing to stand in the gap for them.

On December 23, 1994, John married Luane Harris after meeting her at her job. From that moment on, Luane became the center of his world-his favorite person and the love of his life. They built a life together filled with travel and shared adventures. They crossed the country from the East Coast to the West Coast, visited New York several times, and traveled as far south as Texas and Florida. One of their most memorable trips was to Puerto Vallarta, New Mexico, a place that stayed special to them.

John loved the outdoors and especially loved fishing. Anyone who spent time with him knew that while Luane was without question the love of his life, fishing ranked very high on the list too-close enough that a good day might include both. He also enjoyed working in the yard, spending time on the boat, and tinkering with anything that needed fixing. If something broke, John was usually determined to figure out how to make it work again.

He enjoyed westerns, Star Trek, and rock music-especially bands like KISS and other hard rock favorites. Faith was also an important part of his life, and he enjoyed attending church and worshiping Jesus.

John is survived by his wife, Luane Harris; his sisters, Virginia Harris, Kathy Samuelian, and Betsy Hatzakis; his son, John Harris Jr.; and his three granddaughters, Justice, Olivia, and Colette.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Harris; his mother, Dale Brooks; and his brother, Wesley Harris.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of God-7 Day, 13902 E 11th St., Tulsa, Oklahoma 74108.

John will be remembered for the way he cared for children, the pride he took in fixing what others had given up on, and the many miles he and Luane traveled together. The quiet moments-working in the yard, casting a fishing line, or tinkering with something that needed fixing-were often the ones that brought him the most contentment.
