Melba Jean Darby Mrs

Melba Jean Darby (née Bench), 80, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

She was born on August 4, 1945, in Yell County, Arkansas.

Melba was an avid reader and a talented painter. She had a deep love for animals-especially cats. She also found great joy in tending to her roses.

Known for being a bit of a tough cookie with a dry sense of humor, Melba wasn't always easy to get to know-but those who took the time truly appreciated her strength, wit, and the quiet way she cared for those around her. Though a private person, she loved her family and friends deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie H. Bench and Fay Elizabeth Shelton Bench; her sister, Patsy Faye Bench Winston; and her husband, Jack McPherson Darby.

Melba is survived by her son, David McAuliffe of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Private services will be held for family and close friends.
