Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Edward Thomas. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us too soon on August 16, 2025. He was a cherished member of our family and community, known for his unwavering love and commitment to those he held dear.

He was born on January 23, 1963, in Barberton, Ohio to his parents, Wayne and Gloria Thomas. Wayne grew up with a strong sense of family values that he carried throughout his life. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Rose Erin, with whom he shared over 35 wonderful years of marriage. Together, on December 31, 1988, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. As a father, Wayne was a guiding light to his three children: Joe Winebarger, Mary Winebarger, and Wayne Thomas II. He took immense pride in his role as a father; always supporting and encouraging his children in their endeavors. His oldest, Joe, married to Erica, father to six grandchildren, his only daughter, Mary, the mother of three grandchildren, and Wayne Thomas II, his namesake, married to Rachel, all continue to carry forward his legacy of love and strength.

Wayne dedicated over 30 years to a successful career in aviation at American Airlines and Breeze Airways, where he was known for his hard work, dedication, and mentorship. In his tenure, he received multiple awards in management and was commended for streamlining operations within each organization he was a part of. Wayne took pride in his work and always spoke highly of his colleges and those he led in the field.

Outside of work, Wayne's hobbies included: riding motorcycles, spending time outdoors, singing karaoke, going to the casino, and attending events his grandchildren were involved in. He could always be found cheering them on with enthusiasm and pride. His presence at these events brought warmth and encouragement, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Wayne brought life to every gathering, by cracking jokes, goofing off, or having meaningful conversations ranging from philosophy to future goals. When Wayne spoke to you, he made you feel seen and special, because he genuinely cared for those around him.

Wayne was more than just a family man; he was a friend to many. His kindness, humor, and compassion touched the lives of those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will continue to resonate in the hearts of his family and friends. As we mourn the loss of Wayne, we celebrate the incredible life he lived and the love he shared. He will be greatly missed and live on in our hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Jason Thomas.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Erin Thomas; his children, Joseph Winebarger (Erica), Mary Winebarger, and Wayne Thomas II (Rachel); his 9 grandchildren: Kaylin, Nathan, Victoria, CJ, Kollin, Aleise, Karter, Brandon, and Kristian; his father and stepmother, Wayne and Gale Thomas; his two brothers, Jonathan and Matthew Thomas.

A celebration of life will be held on Sept. 27th at 11:00am at the family home "Once in a Blue Moon" at 901 W. Commercial St. Broken Arrow 74012. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donating to the cancer association of your choice or to contribute to his celebration of life through Venmo to his son, @Wayne-Thomas-60.
